Fillers offer an opportunity to enhance certain areas and can be used across the age spectrum in the young and more mature patient without the disadvantages of an open surgical procedure.

After a detailed assessment, Fillers are placed in any of the layers of the skin, depending on the need. Deep injections are more for building a foundation, while surface fillers fill more superficial contours. Many situations demand both deep and more superficial injections. For example, in the cheek area – the deeper and thicker injection builds the foundation, while the more superficial and thinner injection will create the necessary surface and contour fill and result. This layering technique can enhance areas with profound improvements in all areas of concern.

The main category of Fillers is divided into non-permanent (Dissolving Fillers) and permanent & autologous fillers (Fat from your own body). The non-permanent fillers are the most common types we use in our office. They are all natural based on Hyaluronic acid which is a natural part of your tissue. These fillers have the additional advantage that if the need arises, the filler in an area can be dissolved by using a product named Hyaluronidase™ . This is used to dissolve any filler if needed. The non-permanent fillers have different molecular weights and thickness. Thicker fillers are placed deep to provide more structural support as compared to thinner fillers. Permanent fillers have an increasing safety profile and have also got more research backing their use. These are more often used in the deeper soft tissue. Fat Grafting remains an excellent option. This frequently accompanies a Face Lift procedure to improve volume in the ‘deflated face’. Most filler data and clinical results suggest that fillers can last from 6 months to up to 2 years. Lip fillers are known to last less due to the constant muscle movement in this area and overall filler absorption. No procedure can be permanent, and some touch ups over a period of time are an essential part of self care and keeping tissues fresh and younger.
